ABOUT JOE STURTZ
I’m 73 years old, and for almost six decades my life has revolved around four things: chess, pool, table tennis, and darts. Every one of them demands spatial awareness — something that runs in my blood. My family designed boats in northern New York and automobiles in Detroit. I didn’t know what “genetics” meant back then, but looking back, it explains everything.
At 14, I was already designing training devices for baseball pitching. I’ve always chased the edge — the hidden advantage inside every game. That instinct eventually led me into competitive darts, where I realized the standard equipment was holding players back. I redesigned flights, flattened trajectories, and eventually created DartSmarts — a spring loaded moveable point convertible steel tip/soft tip dart. I produced about 5,000 sets, earned multiple Five Star Reviews, and my final design, The Joust Dart, is still in a video on YouTube today.
In recent years, my focus shifted almost entirely to pool. I became obsessed with watching so many people missing so many shots and why good players were missing shots they should make. Teaching only made it worse — it’s hard to teach precision with equipment that isn’t visually honest.
That obsession led me to uncover the visual defect inside every pool ball — the defect that quietly sabotages aim, confidence, and consistency. I’ve spent years proving it, documenting it, and building the correction the industry never created.
Today, I’m exploring the possibility of launching a billiard ball manufacturing company — because this sport deserves equipment that tells the truth, and after all, this is my “POLICY OF TRUTH.”
